Will you be visiting Italy sometime in the next couple of months? You should consider it! No matter where you’ve been before, there’s something very unique about visiting Italy in particular. Wherever you’re headed, Italy has a lot for tourists to see and do – and some of the most delightful food options you’ll find anywhere in the whole world!
Of course, Italy is quite the large country in Europe. It’s rare you’re going to have time to see all of the most famous sights, or experience the culture in all of the top rated cities. However, if you’ve got a few days and you’re willing to rent a car to get back and forth (or learn the public transport system), the locations below are absolute must-visits!
Lake Como
Lake Como is one of the most famous lakes in the whole world, and is a popular spot for anyone looking to spend time relaxing on a luxurious lake shore.
If you can, spend a day here, book yourself onto a boat tour to get a proper view of the lake at large, and then head over to the city of Como. It’s a charming place, and there’s plenty of gorgeous architecture to marvel at when in town.
The Duomo, Florence
Florence is the capital of Italy’s cultural heritage. It was home to many famous Renaissance families, who gave patronage to many of the world’s most famous artists, like Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli, Michelangelo, etc.
Being in Florence is like taking a step back in time toward that amazingly artistic period and seeing it come to life around you.
One of the best places in Florence though? The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, otherwise known as The Duomo. This is another marvel of the Renaissance, and was long thought impossible to finish thanks to how large and tall the cathedral’s dome needed to be.
If you’re going to head inside, just make sure you have something to cover your shoulders and legs with!
The Colosseum, Rome
The capital of Italy is a feature all in itself. One of the oldest cities in the world, with Vatican City tucked neatly in the centre of it, there’s a lot you can do when you get into the city.
However, we will always recommend heading over to one of the most ancient structures in all of the world: the Colosseum.
Before you get going – if you’re carrying some heavy backpacks and you don’t want to abandon them in your car, be sure to drop them off at one of the many luggage storage rome facilities you can find that’ll keep the stuff you need nearby. Otherwise you’ll be covering a lot of walking dense distance with all that weight on your back.
The Colosseum is a marvel of ancient engineering, and is still standing in rather remarkable condition. It’s also larger than most people think, so you’ll definitely want to snap some of your own photos with it in the background!
Path of the Gods, Amalfi Coast
A very well known hiking trail, if you’re going anywhere near the Amalfi Coast on your Italian trip, make sure you spend some time on the Path of the Gods.
It’s a beautiful coastal path that’s quite popular with tourists, and thankfully, it isn’t too hard to try and complete either. Of course, if you’re not a hiker and you never have been, you may find it a bit difficult, but be sure to give it a try!
Make sure you start your hike outside of prime sunshine hours – and try to end it in the same period as well. You’ll need around two to three hours to walk the main section of the path, which stretches from Bomerano to Nocelle (or vice versa). Remember though, you’ll have to go back the other way again as well!
See the Best of Italy on Your Next Trip
Getting around Italy isn’t the most difficult thing to do, but it’s certainly not a trip you want to plan at the last minute! You need to have a strong itinerary in place to make sure you get to see the locations you’re most excited for, as even just visiting one of the bigger cities could suck you in for the whole week!
If you want to see more than just the walls of the destination closest to the airport you’ve arrived at, keep the four locations above in mind as you craft the perfect vacation schedule.
